While the growth may be slower in Sweden in comparison to other nations, gig work is not insubstantial as in 2017, it was estimated that 12% of the working population ages 16-65 were actively participating in the gig economy while twice that (24%) had at one point searched for employment opportunities through online platforms. In Sweden, gig workers often struggle when it comes to obtaining insurances which may cover their needs. Most good gig workers make use of different skills and may work in up to 3 different industries. This may mean needing to secure different policies in order to be covered in the opposing occupations. The explosion of the gig economy, made possible by ubiquitous smart phones and apps that connect services with customers, is still in its infancy. Clearly this is not a settled part of the economy yet.
